Should My Family Be Tested?
This video discusses the importance of having your family tested for the gene associated with celiac disease. According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, people with a first-degree relative with celiac disease (parent, child, sibling) have a 1 in 10 risk of developing celiac disease, compared to the general population risk of 1 in 100. It is important to have continued screening if you test positive for the gene. Although you may not currently test positive for celiac disease, you are at a much greater risk of developing celiac disease in your lifetime.
